Saadani National Park

SNP0163n

Saadani, where the beach meets the bush, is Tanzania’s youngest national park covering 1000 sq km. it is the only wildlife sanctuary in East Africa with ocean frontage and therefore the only place that can genuinely lay claim to offering beautiful beaches and safari in a single location. This colorful clash of ecosystems is found nowhere else along the coast of East Africa. It offers a completely unique safari environment, combining that most rare of recipes river, bush and beach.
The amazing Wami River forms the southern boundary of the Park. From the open sea, you can boat into the river mouth and within minutes you are passing pods of hippo and basking crocodiles

The park contains many indigenous species including Liechtenstein’s hartebeest and the rare Roosevelt sable. A wide range of grazers and primates can be seen on game drives and walks, among them giraffe, buffalo, warthog, common waterbuck, reedbuck, hartebeest, wildebeest, red duiker, greater kudu, eland, sable antelope, yellow baboon and velvet monkey.

Elephants are encountered with increasing frequency, and several lion prides are resident, together with leopard, spotted hyena and black-backed jackal.

Dolphins are sometimes seen offshore and whales pass through the Zanzibar channel on their migration. Saadani’s beaches form one of the last major green turtle breeding sites on mainland Tanzania.

Walking safari is an exciting experience – as the realization of the unknown presence around you is emphasized by every noise, your senses become attuned to your surroundings and you gain a greater appreciation of the environment
